The Story of Strata

YERU. A city lost to time since the Great Fall. Long ago, the world as we know it ended in a terrible nuclear cataclysm, brought upon by the violent tendencies of mankind. The encompassing destruction of that war was so ghastly that it caused the depletion of the ozone layer, drastically increasing the temperature of the earth’s surface for centuries. In turn this led to rivers, lakes, seas and oceans to start drying up and turning the once verdant Earth to a bleak deserted landscape. Poisonous and radioactive gases spread across the surface of the earth, and only cities built high above the sea level managed to escape the brunt of that toxic environment. Yeru was one of them.

Beyond the physical devastation of the Earth, the psychological scarring for those who survived the Great Fall caused many of them to lose touch with whatever remnants of humanity they had left. This brought forth the chaotic and bestial natures that mankind had hoped to tame through the ages of civilization. Those who were spared the initial cataclysm, now had to deal with the chaotic aftermath of survival in an unhinged and lawless world. Many went underground, to try and hide from poisonous surface, but also – in some deep level – realizing that they have stopped being creatures of the light.

A terrible side-effect of the devastation was the mutations caused by the radiation and toxins that engulfed the Earth. Every living organism was affected by these transfigurations. These changes caused mainly physical deformities, but in some rare cases, adding sometimes terrible, sometimes extraordinary abilities to those afflicted.
Man has finally turned into the monsters it always feared. They became the Fallen – Nephilim.

The Nephilim are rising, and the fate of Yeru is in your hands. Literally.

And we’re back…

After a long pause, Strata is officially returning to full development. Since TOjam 2011, when the idea of Strata was being conceived, a few ideas regarding the development of the game were bounced around, and I’m happy to say that a clearer vision is now in place. The core of the game will be based on the traditional platformer gameplay, but rather than focus on speed and twitchy jumping triggers, it will involve a lot of exploration and character growth – all tied in to an epic storyline.

Keep checking this area, as more concept art and dev tests will be coming this way.

Thanks for reading. Your support is greatly appreciated.
